The most important question to ask your wedding photographer if you’re getting married in Florida.
Here’s a question I highly recommend you ask your wedding photographer or videographer;
What is your plan if your camera dies right before the kiss?
If they give you deer in the headlights, that’s a red flag.
You want them to have a back up plan and then a back up plan to the back up plan. A plan B, C, and D.
If they’re new to the industry they might tell you that’s never happened to them. Well it happened to me for the first time in 8 years recently.
I was shooting a video at a recent wedding and it was super hot. Every camera has the potential to overheat and it’s an even higher potential when shooting video.
But I’ve been shooting wedding videos in Florida for several years now and never had a problem.
But the humidity was so high this day and we were right in the sunlight during the ceremony.
So there I was and I could tell the ceremony was wrapping up and we were probably 1-2 minutes away from the kiss. And my camera died.
I tried turning it back on. Totally dead. I knew it wasn’t the battery because I always put a fresh battery in before the ceremony.
I had another camera rolling as a backup but I didn’t want to depend on that because it’s very likely it might’ve overheated as well.
So I tapped Jessica, our lead photographer and told her what happened.
She tapped our associate photographer to make sure she was going to photograph the kiss and Jessica switched to video on her camera.
She was also filming on her cell phone which was rigged up to her camera for content creation.
I knelt down in the shade to try and get the camera to cool down. And wouldn’t you know it, It cooled down and came back on and I was back in action just in time to get the kiss.
The point was there was zero chance we’d miss the kiss because we had multiple backup plans. I had 3 contingencies in place to make sure we could still do our job and capture everything
When you’re deciding on a photographer for your wedding, always make sure they a plan for worst case scenario.
Because sooner or later it will happen. The camera will die. The memory card will be corrupted. The flash drive will crash. We've had all of which happen in our earlier years of being in business that we’ve had to solve for.
